Take a boat trip to get a coffee from the yacht club, visit
historic Mansion House Bay at the end of the harbour, or drop
back to Sandspit for the morning and visit the Matakana restaurants
and shopping then go to Brick Bay vineyards for lunch. Alternatively,
simply relax on your deck and enjoy a barbeque of freshly caught
fish.
A sub-tropical climate with majority of the island covered in bush, mainly Kanuka, Manuka and Pohutukawa, subtlety lit at night, this is a bird watchers heaven. Home to many native birds you will hear and see tuis, fantails, wood pigeons, kingfishers, silver-eyes, grey warblers, the cheeky flightless weka as well as many different sea birds. As dusk approaches the sounds of moorporks can be heard in the bush and if you are lucky you may even hear a kiwi.
…There’s something extraordinary about a setting like this.
